Acupressure plasters are tiny plasters with a pellet in the middle that are applied to acupuncture points to maintain stimulus over a period of time.  They are not as succesful as needling over a short period of time (40 minutes) but provide strong benefits through their gradual pressure (1-2 days).

Why we have switched from Vaccarian Seeds to Magrain Magnetic Seeds

Size - Smaller is better - The point of the beads is to provide acupressure stimulation.  The pressure is supplied either by massaging the bead or just by the tension force supplied by the plaster.  Pressure is a force per unit area, this means that for a given force the pressure increases if that force is supplied over a smaller area.  Think of it like this, if an elephant were to stand on my foot I would rather they were wearing sandals as opposed to stilettos.

Magnetic Fields - Also theoretically the fact that they are magnetic could provide a stronger stimulation.  Small fields like this have not been researched to our knowledge but it is accepted that magnetic fields can alter neural functioning.  We have seen trans-cranial magnetic stimulation applied to Broca's speech centre which made the patient unable to form words as the field was applied.  In our training we talk about electro-magnetism, not just electricity.  Electricity and magnetism are intimately related forces and the application of one field induces the other.  For example a moving magnetic field applied to a wire causes an electric current to flow.  So the application of a magnetic field near a nerve causes electrical changes.  We don't know if the beads are strong enough to do this but coupled with the smaller surface area it makes them a better choice.

Instructions for use

Ear seeds produce a long acting continuous compression effect on an acupuncture points and are said to harmonise and balance, enhance, or inhibit the effect of the point.  The action they have on points is similar to that of needling it just occurs as the result of pressure over a longer period.  Seeds should stay on for 1-3 days to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect.  Generally they should be removed after 2-3 days as the ear or body will have adapted to the pressure after 3 days.

Before applying ear pellets the ear should be thoroughly cleaned with a suitable wipe to ensure the tape can be applied with a good seal.  When the pellet is removed a temporary depression may be left in the skin.

Each pellet comes with a high quality clear (transparent) round 7mm (0.28") diameter hypo-allergenic band-aid tape.
