Why Puzzles are good for the Brain
One way in which humans differ from other species is that we have a sense of future and are able to predict outcomes to enable delayed gratification. The frontal lobe of the brain is in charge of this function.
In several disorders such as addiction and depression the frontal lobe can become inhibited and so impulsive behaviours and poor social control are often exhibited.
Strengthening the frontal lobes improves our ability to refuse to succumb to emotionally driven behaviours.
Puzzles such as Brain String and Cross teaser are a great way to train the frontal lobes and reinforce their function.
